    $600.00 unemployment payments

These are scheduled to end at the end of July unless they get extended. Given the surge in virus cases I could see it getting extended through the rest of the year but if it is not extended I could also see foreclosures and delinquencies start accelerating. I’m wondering if this is another reason ba stocks and maybe the market have bmy heading south lately.

I'm not sure there is an appetite for extending those payments right now. Maybe they come back if we start to shut down again. But we're a ways off from that. I think it's more likely we get a go back to work bonus.

But if things get worse and then we start flu season and we get more shutdowns and layoffs, things could get really ugly. We better hope for a good treatment and then a vaccine.

I doubt they get extended but some other form of help will happen.

Our national debt says we couldn't afford to do that April- July, much less extended it even longer.

Its stupid to pay someone $15 hour to sit home when minimum wage is under $10.They should of never done it in the first place our country is bankrupt.

I just read that the unemployment payment is $3 for every $1 of income lost. I do not think that the country can afford it, but suspect that some type of payment will continue. When "universal income" statements start entering the discussion, you know that something else is coming.

IMHO it will get extended. My reasoning is that this is an election year and if one side of the aisle brings it up, it would be political suicide for the other side to oppose it. Just my two cents.

Would be nice to see a politician follow the constitution instead of buying votes for once.

I was very blessed to work for forty-four years and never be unemployed. I know people who were laid off and collected unemployment. The amount they received was predicated on the amount they were earning prior to being laid off. If they were fired they received nothing.

When and why was this changed?

    Socialism. That's why.

It was still like that but, because of Covid they added an extra $600 on top and you also didn't necessarily have to be "laid off." Get the country a taste and keep them coming back for more....

I'm all for giving people who can't work in these circumstances money equal to, or even slightly above their normal wages. However it erks me that the kid working at starbucks who's on unemployment is making more than myself and coworkers who are working our tails off in hospitals caring for these covid patients on top of the other patients we have. I don't mean to sound bitter, but I kind of am.
