Alot, meself included think the 04-06xhp were some of the fastest best preforming hulls Triton made, having said that if you use the search function, this topic comes up quite a bit and would give you some great insight on past and current Triton hulls..

It's a fact the fastest hull they ever made was the 200 XP not many of those floating around but for a real fishing boat the 2008 tr20x HP is the fastest it's the only year they let you put a 250 horsepower on the 20 hp Hull. Previous hulls only rated for 225. For 21 footers the 04-06 X series as stated above.
Last year I found a 2008 20xhp in great condition. It runs 75-76 fully loaded 2 men full of gas. Have seen 80 solo. It handles big water well an runs really fast through turns. Everyone that rides with me says it's the best hull they have ridden in.
2008 20XHP Also one of the few 20’ boats with a 250HP I could get in my garage with tongue folded 23’ 4”B7C1F2D7-B701-41ED-92CD-0BD0EE0AAECE.jpeg

My 1999 TR-21 does alright
My 02 Tr21 runs alright also.
Also a 196 with a 200 will hurt some bigger boats feelings; if you are able to drive it.
I’ve owned a pile of em. The earlier models mentioned we’re great platforms and speed friendly. But I must say these ‘20 TRX’s w/Mercury 250 ProXS 4strokes are absolute runners too!!
you got that driving part right,i have one and i got to watch it around 63 when it starts and then its to late to do anything,i just slow down and start over doing a left hand chop on the wheel but i better do it before the chine starts,i am new to the boat and still learning to drive it

I ran across Rayburn today in a 2014 21HP with a new merc at 81, he is a setup master BTW and knows how to get them right.
'08 TR21X-HP. Will jump to the mid 70s, no problemm
Thanks for the great info
Thanks I will search past posts as well...
I believe if you could put a 250 hp on the 97 98 tr21 hulls they would be at the top of the list.
I run a 97 tr21 with a 2018 225 pro xs and I run 76 with 2 10ft talons that is solo but with a partner 73 74.
I sold them from the fall of 1996 to 2007, of all the ones i set up for customers the 2004 threw 2007 was by far the best ones to me, The TR21HP was a blast to drive and good speeds, the 2009 was a very good boat for performance. my fishing buddy has a 09 21HP with a 2017 Optimax running 81 by himself and 78 with two guys. Now he has played with it a lot, props sent to Mark Croxton several times but he has it right.
I actually had one 2006 196 with a 200 Opti that i saw hit 78, maybe five gallons of fuel, me at 200 pounds no fishing equipment. This guy was from way up north, came down and spent a week with us and we finally got her set up to run. He fishes by himself all the time light loaded, we ended up with a 27 trophy that i had worked by an old friend who knew how to make them run at that time.
Bought a new TR21PD in early '97. it was hull #24 and only weighed 1270#. Stock with a Merc 225 EFI it would run mid to upper 70's depending on load. Soon as warranty was up put 300PM heads on, second set of butterflys in the intake, jack plate, L&S nose cone and solid mounts. It would bump 90 light and low to mid 80's loaded.

I’ve got an 04 TR-196 with a Mercury 200 3.0 liter that will run with a lot of the 21 footers with 250’s.
