Looking for more life from my plastics

I've been going through a lot of plastic baits (which I suppose is a good thing..) . I'm using a 2 - 3/0 wide gap hook but after a few catches and dragging them through the weeds the nose of the bait becomes all tore up and then won't stay on the hook properly . I've tried super glue but that seems to just make a mess. I normally just buy more but the shelves have been pretty sparse this season so I'm looking for tips to extend the life of what I have or rejuvenate the ones that are wore out. Thanks in advance.

Lots of guys have recommended the special glue for fixing soft plastics. I'm pretty sure a search (with the magic words) would yield some results. I have not used it, but I think it's called "Mend-It" or something like that. Jeff Hahn is a big promoter of it, IIRC. He prolly owns stock in the company! Ah, TW sells it and appears to have some in stock. I'm positive!

I killed a 12-pack just to watch it die.

I don't own stock, I'm just cheap and try to get all of the life I can out of my plastics! I think a few of my plastic jig trailers are made up of more Mend-It than plastic! Yes, Mend-It is the way to go. It is NOT a glue, it remelts the plastic. I get the small bottle and it will last me at least one season.

For the REALLY cheap fix, get you a can of clear PVC cement. Never used the Mend it product, but believe the PVC cement performs similarly.

I burn flukes where the hookeye rips the top of the bait in half. It works halfa**ed at best. I’d like to try this Mend-It stuff though.

Saw a video by Tom Reddington on this issue. He puts an o-ring (like rigging a wacky rig) over the torn head of the plastic. It keeps bait together and also works as a bait keeper. Really a neat idea !

You might want to get some screw locks and put them on the hook eye. Pretty much solves the problem of the front of the bait getting ripped up, and when you get bit your bait won't get balled up on the hook bend.

Ike had a video on using screw locks to keep plastics from ripping and pulling down on the hook.
