    Options on lower unit damage

Mercury 1b540866. Hit a gravel Bar today and broke about half of my skeg on a gen one torquemaster . I would imagine my options are
    New lower unit
New housing and built with existing gears
Welding on a new skeg. I know my old skegs I had had this done older mercs I think I have read this isn't an option on the high performance models.
Of coarse my certified merc tech and insurance will battle I'm sure just wanting some oppionions on sat night since I won't be able to talk to anyone tell Tuesday.

New housing should be the only option to consider. It also gives the mechanic a chance to inspect all parts of the LU for damage.

Insurance and new housing are the only options, don't cave in to insurance, ask insurance to guarantee, in writing, that a welded on skeg will not fail and kill you and your passengers.
