    Chine walk suggestions?

    2019 Nitro z20
    Merc 250 Pro XS 4S
    23p Fury 3 blade
    PTP is approximately is 3.75

driving up to about 65-69mph is perfectly smooth but once I pass that the boat becomes undrivable from chine walk. The PTP was originally 3.5 and lowering it .25 did nothing. I have all my tackle in the center storage and all my rods on the port side to help balance the load. I don’t usually carry much gear so I wouldn’t think it affects anything. My goal is to see 73-75mph and get rid of the chine....any thoughts?

UPDATE: swapped to a 25 Tempest Plus.....ptp is approx. 3.25”.......wot was 72mph @5900rpm on the gauge. Water psi was good. Boat was ALOT more drivable at top end with very minor porpoising. The lake was pretty busy so I’ll try again after the holiday....I’m very pleased with the 1st run of the Tempest. I’m going to check my rpm with VesselView next time also to see if the gauge is accurate.

Mine does the exact same thing. I still have my PTP at 3.5”

Should I lower it more? Or raise it? Maybe change prop to a Tempest?

I’m kinda of believing that the NVT hulls are just prone to chine walking.

Start at with trim all the way down. Floor it. Keep floored but just barely trim up. 2 sec stop for 30. 2 more sec stop for 30. Then just a light tap up. All while wide open. Keep subtle trim up till walk starts then keep good left pressure on wheel and learn walk. I’m still learning. Up to 72-73 now fully loaded.

I have the same set up and drives the same way. 65 MPH RIDES LIKE A CADALAC ,PUT THE HAMMER DOWN GOES WILD WITH CHINE WALK. I have to trim down to give full throttle inch trim up. I cant run WOT at full trim. wll run73 MPH though

Same thing here , 2019 z20 250 4 stroke, starts getting really loose around 65-66 by 68-70 is to bad to hold . . It’s as bad st 65-66 as my z8 got at 72-73 ....
ive been working trim up slowly but when it hits certain speed it really starts walking. I’d like to get it figured out.

This is very frustrating. These things should be able to drive however you want straight from the factory as much as we pay for them.

My recommendation is trim slowly with small bumps at a time. My guage is delayed and it took a while to figure that out. My ptp is also 3.5 inches. 2020 Z20

Just the nature of speed. Raise it. Try a different prop. Fill the opposite livewell. Does it do it with 2 people?

I have the Z21.. I've never broken 71. I can hit 65 to 69 all day long though. Might have to recheck my PTP

Every performance bass boat will chine walk. It isn't A Nitro thing. Some do it more than others. There are RARE occasions where one will not walk but very few. Stay below the walking speed or learning to drive it are the simplest options. Each boat is different because a few pounds can make a difference.

My 2019 Z21, 2- 10 ft PP's, 12" Atlas-250 ProXS 4 stroke- at 3.00 PTP (2.0 in on JP ruler)- 70 mph- 5900 rpms- 4 blade Bravo 1 24.5 P- handles like a dream. IMO best all around set up- regardless of load.

Same, my Z21 w/23p Fury@71mph gets zero chine walk. May switch over to the 4 blade though. Much rather have the hole shot and plane at lower speeds that a 4 blade usually offers. I'd try moving some weight around in the boat, that helps many times.

I have a 2019 Z19 with a 200 HP pro xs and PTP currently at 3.50" and same issue. Still playing with things to figure it out.

I see most people running tempest and fury, is anyone running a bravo or other prop? Likes/dislikes?

Do you remember what the PTP measurement was from the dealer.
My Z19 is set at 4" from the Dealer. Have not changed it yet.

Do some research but I am pretty sure in most cases you raise the motor to make chine-walk less prone. With that being said anytime you raise the motor pay close attention to your water pressure and your rpm's verses speed. There will come a point when you get too high and your rpm's go up and your speed goes down due to slip or you lose water pressure. Once you find what is too high then simply go down 1/4" or 3/8" and this should be the sweet spot. When going up and testing most people go up 1/4" at a time. Finding the sweet spot is a time consuming tedious process if you have a manual jack-plate...you might not notice much then move 1/4" and see a big difference.

Plus as already mentioned balance the load of your tackle and gear from side to side. Also on a side note keep the real heavy stuff in the rear so you don't hurt you bow lift.

Balancing part really helps, the removable bins make this fairly easy. I have one heavy bin the other is light, usually pretty empty for co angler stuff. When I'm by myself I move the heavier bin to the other side, to offset my weight.

definitely look at raising the motor, remember some chine walk is to be expected but controllable, with left had chops of the steering wheel.

Consider moving batteries, since that is a easy way to move weight.
