    First time to St. Lawrence

My grandson and I are going to the St. Lawrence Sunday for the first time. We'll be staying just outside Clayton at Lanz's Motel/Campground. I see that the water temp. in Alexandria Bay is 59-60. I know the season opens Saturday but do you guys expect the Smallmouth to be on the beds? Any info. on what stage they should be in, areas to fish, would be greatly appreciated.

Is it ok to get there? Like crossing the border if that's what you're doing.

The Flogger will cut the glare and the chop and help me get a better look. I can see the size of the fish on the bed, and present my bait to that fish easier. Bigger smallmouth tend to spawn deeper a flogger can be the difference in a ok bag vs a giant one.

How deep can you flog? I fish a reasonably clear quarry lake that has rockpiles in 12ft down to 30ft. Can yah see 12ft down? I've been out on calm, sunny days and can juuust see some of the 12ft piles.

All depends on water clarity... 8-12-as deep as 25-30+ feet up on St. Lawrence.. some
days up there you don’t need one can see them in 20 ft .. Also depends on bottom color..

You will definitely see bass on here still. Every year there is a tournament around this time and her fishing usually wins it.

As for going to the Canadian side, check with the border officers before you go over the border line. I know CBSA has stated don’t try to cross but I don’t know what they could do unless you anchor down.
