Question for Don about powerhead to adapter plate torque

'99 225 EFI 0G789393 I thought I knew the correct torque value installing the powerhead back to the adapter plate. From my understanding, all nuts to 25 ft lbs then to 40 ft lbs and 8 to 50ft lbs. The factory manual states all to 50 ft lbs with no mention of any thing different. I remember you saying the nuts under cylinder#6 were different, was that the last two on the starboard side, or the very last two towards the stern? I'm not sure how the 10 are numbered, and again no mention in the manual of that either. Thanks for any direction.

    Part of it????

    Nuts #1 through #8 are torqued to 40 lb/ft.
    Nuts #9 and #10 are torqued to 25 lb/ft.

My OEM shop manual says all nuts to 50 ft lbs. I believe his post was for an Opti but generic for bolt sequence. Mine is a '99 225EFI.11.jpgthumbnail_Image11.jpg

I would use the specs I posted, not 50 lb/ft.

I would take Savages advice on this, quite sure Don will agree, There I am sure a reason for the change and he would be aware of that and why
may have something to do with lower block distortions that was discovered after the printing of the manuals

Not disputing what Savage posted, but Don mentioned that each motor can be different so I want to be sure those for that Opti above are good for me. I called Mercury factory support and they told me all to 50ft lbs. I asked about a support bulletin update, and with my serial number, they found nothing about it not listed in the manual. So for now I'm on hold until Don chimes in. Too much work into it at this point to choke on the tail

The information Savage provided supersedes all previously published specs for 3L EFI or Optimax PRODUCTION model product. In other words: All except the XS (Racing) Adapter Plate models.

    First pass: Snug

    Second Pass: 25 lbs/ft.

Third Pass: 1-8 are torqued to 40 lbs/ft.

You can recheck 9-10 at 25 lbs/ft when done.

Thanks so much Don and Savage for the help. As sometimes the case seeing different posts often leads to mistakes and bad info. You guys are the best!

The xs race is different? In which way? Do studs have a torque spec when installed to block?

    1. Yes.
    2. Motor mounts are cast into the plate.
    3. Yes, some studs are different length. See post #2 for torque specs.

    2013 pro xs

What are the torque specs for the powerhead on my 2013 proxs, sn#1B964386? I read where I need to buy a special torque adapter, is that because you can't get a regular torque wrench with a socket on there? I'm changing the exhaust plate and about to go back together with it.

Install the torque adapter at a right angle to the torque wrench handle to keep from having to account for any additional length added.
