    2001 280 PRO Restoration/Project

As I continue to repair/restore this o'l girl to be water worthy once again, thought I'd share some of the things I've had great success with as I go.

Here she is as progress continues:

The dash was severely dried out and faded from sitting outside uncovered for years. So I had this tire dressing in the garage and figured.........."WHY NOT TRY THIS", got nothing to loose...............

    Before/During:

    Completed:

    Product:
    Sold at O'Reilly Auto Parts
    Superior Products Tire Shine
I applied it with a chip/paint brush from the hardware store.
It really soaks into the plastic.

On to the next repair or fix: "STRESS CRACKS"

This o'l girl was apparently rode hard and hung up wet in her prior life. She had some big stress cracks in the metal flake gel-coat forward top cap where it maybe hit the dock real hard a few times and they were very unsightly to say the least due to ageing & sitting outside, and me not being a metal flake gel-coat repair guy..............

    Answer and fix:

Herculiner Truck Bed Liner material, equally placed in 4 spots FWD and AFT for no slip step on-off pads. Worked out perfect, almost looks like they should have already been there from the factory.

If you happen to notice all the PVC piping..........that's another project, DIY ROD HOLDERS for the rod boxes,

Current new pics of the Herculiner Truck Bed Liner material applied as step pads but also covering some big gel-coat stress cracks on the top cap.

    Step Pads:

For those whose aft battery compartment panel has come loose, easy fix:

Aft Battery Compartment Panel Support 2 places:

More to come when I have time to get back on it.....................

Got the old Lowrance X48 out of the dash with an "AIR SAW", easy work. Replaced it with a Carbon Fiber panel which will be the future home of all the switches.

It would even make a nice storage pocket if you can find a plastic container that would fit in, never enough room for stuff to keep handy.

The 3 rocker switches (other than BILGE) that were there were two position-BUT-they didn't function any different as a single pole switch. In either position they turned on the same pump,.

I couldn't find a timer or anything else in the system. The 3 rocker switches were, Bilge, Fill, Aerate. I'm going to see what your wiring diagram has to show. It may not be model specific but will help allot in general I think. The wiring all looked to be OE at the switches, but the Fill & Aerate would run/turn on the same pump in either rocker position. There's enough wiring going in and out of the Fill & Aerate switches to serve multi functions but it didn't work that way.

Either run your rocker switches from console or from the front don't mix them.
When my 207 was new I call factory Tech and this was there advise.

All I have up front is Nav Lights & Trim UP/DOWN, so no issue there....

    Update on wiring:
Just want to thank our Sprint Admin, Michael Jackson (aka Bassmeister) for the Sprint Wiring Diagram (generic, not model specific) he sent me during my rewiring of my 280 PRO. Some previous owner(s) got in there and did allot of backyard rewiring that made little to no sense, so a rewire was needed. I'd like to share the following info for others who may run across this little module, how to wire and it's use.

    RIG-RITE TIMER MODULE #520
(still available to order replacements from mfg. as of 7/8/20)

Ok, I finally finished up the boat and took it out. I'm very pleased or lucky as hell.....everything worked as it should, no electrical smoke/fire from my rewiring job and that 90 HP Yamaha ran great, topped out at 36 MPH...., Live wells full (of water) struggled to get on plane and topped out at 28 mph

So this will close out my restoration thread and open up my new "RE-POWERING" thread, stay tuned. Building/modding a blown/hurt 99 Merc 175 EFI block, changing the 20" leg to a 15", adding Hyd. Plate, etc, etc. You can already see where this is going can't you . One of these days you'd think I'd finally leave well enough alone.......NOT !
