    2013 Mercury Pro XS Noise

    2013 Mercury Pro XS 250

    serial number-1B964762

Have a noise that accelerates with the motor. For the last year or two this same noise was intermittent and rare as it would make a clicking sound and go away within 2-3 seconds while on plane running. Did this more so when you would slightly turn. Now this noise has became constant. Compressor? Lower unit? Any help appreciate! Thanks!

Obviously I am not a pro mechanic however that sounds to me like the culprit.

    Thanks for the help!

Yep. Crank side rod bearing gone. Seen it too many times. Running it more just risks sending metal particulate into the direct injectors, if it’s not already there.

When you replace these compressors what is the best DIY way to clean the direct injectors?

You can diy clean the rails and hoses but there isn’t a great way to diy the injectors without equipment to hold them open, pulse them, etc. there are a number of vendors that provide these services, Don at European Marine has a very well regarded service for this. http://www.bbcboards.net/showthread.php?t=23665.

Remember to replace the two RETURN OIL LINE FILTERS, clean out the lines from the compressor to those filters, and have an OIL PUMP PRIME sequence done before recommissioning the engine.

    Thank you sir!

Will putting the motor in break in mode work in place of the "oil pump prime"? Thanks again!

Yeah, but it will also add 2hrs of extra oiling (engine run to meet break in time down) which will likely cost you a set of spark plugs too. Having a dealer run the "oil pump prime sequence" is a far better choice.

At least 2 hours of DOUBLE oiling (add the cost of extra oil and a set of spark plugs, it's probably going to cost you less to do it RIGHT).
