Changed plugs and fuel filter, now engine alarm going off

    E225DHLSCM
    05209034

Changed (and indexed) spark plugs yesterday, and also changed out the fuel filter/water separator. Started the motor, check engine audible alarm and light go on. Motor started right up and idled fine. Pulled out of water, gave everything I touched a look and touch, made sure bulb was hard. Put back in water, started right up, smooth as can be, alarm goes off again. Tried a few times, but alarm on in less than 5 seconds after starting.
    I’m all ears...

Did you take the fuel filter back off to see if the electrodes were touching each other?

Well, we may have a winner right off the bat! I may have slightly bent one electrode and I think they were touching. I carefully straightened it out, screwed the filter back on and ran it out in my dooryard and no alarm! Going to the lake now, just to be sure...

For future info....I always loosen the port belly pan and remove so I can drop that fuel filter straight down and not get into those electrodes.....

It helps when a guy gives you the model and serial plus a detailed description of what he did!

That happens a lot, Like Mike said, pull the pan back to change the filter.

I would suggest you not spill fuel into the sound blankets inside the lower engine covers, those blankets tend to swell up over time when doused with fuel...

I put a couple rags in there before I removed the filter, so maybe that is why I didn’t have the access I needed and bent electrodes. In the future I will plan scheduled maintenance when the Meister makes his annual visit to New England... But I better get him early in the day...

Better be before 9:30 AM, you've got a narrow window he gets up at 9:15.

Terrible feeling how you can do something well intentioned and then collaterally and unknowingly screw something else up in the process.
