Stratos 201XL Pro with 200hp Ficht. Opinions?

Is this enough engine? Not looking for a speed demon just a decent hole shot and rough water cruising.

Sold my 2001 Ranger 518 with 200 Mercury , how does this boat compare?

    Many Thanks!

what year? ficht is a BIG gamble but if it was maintained and still runs good it will be ok for awhile likely. mine runs great but some parts are getting scarce and someone to work on them is another issue. 200 bare minimum but if propped correctly it would be fine just slower than most

201 is a great hull and boat

Ficht issues surrounded the 150-175 configuration. 200 shouldn't be an issue. General consensus ref Ficht is if its made it survived this long, it won't die of "ficht disease", which tended to show up early in life. Everything else mactlman says is spot on. Ensure you would have somebody close enough to you that knows the motor to work on it.

Then it's not a Ficht if it is a 2005 motor it is a BRP motor...a model number will confirm exactly what motor is in question.

An '05 could be either a DI engine or the first Etec. DI engines are solid, IMO. But I'm biased 201 might be a little underpowered with a 200, but never been in one so I can't say.

A strong 200 is enough for a 201, it just won't be the fastest 201 around. OP, what is a 2005 model, the boat or motor?

I would not consider 200 HP under-powered but it is at the lower end of HP that most people run. Back in the day when BASS had the 150 HP rule people would hang a 150 on a 201. They performed okay but they were no speed demon and were slow out of the hole. As tdt91 said a strong 200 HP is plenty enough for that rig. With 200 HP a person will be just fine.

I was one of those guys that had a 201 with a 150 on the back. With the right prop it worked just fine. They were rated for a 245HP, well good luck finding one of those.

I have a 08 201 with a 225 I don't consider it underpowered the are such good hulls. A 200 probably would be underpowered but as others have said it will get you fishing. Probably bad resale I would say should push 65

I have a 99 201 PE with a 200 Optimax. It's not underpowered at all. It's exactly what you'd expect, a little slower than the same boat with a bigger motor, but not bad. I'm still in the process of getting mine propped right, but even with the couple of random props I've tried I get out of the hole well and reach the low 60s. I'm hoping to find the mid to high 60s as I tinker around more. I've got a talon, 4 batteries and a heavy arse Ultrex to lug around too. I get by just fine with a dinged up 23 Tempest. I assume I'll do even better with 4 blade. I'm going to test one this weekend.

If you're hoping to win a lot of races at tournament blast off this is not the rig for you. You will get beat by the guys with 250s, as you would expect. If you're looking for a solid fishing boat that still scoots along plenty fast, you won't be disappointed.

That's exactly what I'm planning to do. I just got my VesselView mobile set up from Don at European Marine (best price I could find with the BBC discount), so I want to get a few numbers on these two Tempests I have for a little baseline, and then I plan to give Mark a call. Really excited to try out a Razor XL.
