    175 question

Anyone with a new ProXs 175? I am curious to your thoughts on performance? I can’t really find any reviews/videos on the 175. Does it turn heads when you crank it like the V8?

Got one on my 189TRX it’s quiet. Nothing like the V8’s, performance wise it’s about 4mph faster than the 150 as far as I’ve seen. Usually a 62mph boat but gotten up to 66mph gps 2 times.

I have a 2019 Phoenix 618pro with the 175 and will run 67 by myself, loaded. As said, its very quiet. Quick out of the hole and have been very satisfied so far.

Thanks for the replies. I may change boats and one of the boats I was looking at is rated up to a 175. I am just worried about dropping to the 175 from a 200 I may be disappointed.

Dave, it would be good if you could drive the other boat before letting your 200 Pro XS go. You may miss the V8 power.

Yeah I would definitely need to do that and be able to air it out wide open before deciding.

I have a new Pro XS 175 on a Ranger deep V (VX1788WT), I've only just finished the first couple hours of break in and we just touched 50mph, which is really scooting for a deep V multispecies. It has a definite grumble to it at start up, and over 4,000rpm trimmed out it really belts out a commanding tone. Extremely happy with the performance.

I apologist for taking this thread a little off track, but could one of you guys with the new Merc Pro XS 175 4s measure the approximate dimensions of the engine cowling/cover? I want to compare it to my current older 175 Pro XS 2s. I may repower and I have very little extra garage space length, so I’m wondering if the new 175 4s Pro XS has a longer cowling than my current 2.5L V6 Pro XS 175 2s. Really appreciate it!

i guess I’m looking for the motors longest point, front to back.

That is not an easy thing to measure. I get 39 inches from the point on the back to the point on the front.

thx for measuring. Glad you did as my current pro xs 175 2s is just 29”. 11” difference makes the 175 4s a no go for me. Just don’t have the room. Thx again for measuring.

I'm not sure I believe that measurement- as the real measurement is from the engine MOUNTING surface (back).

Compared to the 2.5L Optimax cowlings, The 175 Fourstroke cowling extends 5.1" further at the back, 6.3" taller, and 3.3" further forward.

Don-that does make total sense. Thank you for the clarification! I may be able to squeeze the 175 4s into my garage after all.

actually, the width and shape of the cowling on the back/rear side is also an important measurement as I have to Trim my motor down and turn my motor to the side to fit it into my garage. The 2S PRO XS 175 has a pretty much squared cowling if that makes sense. From photos, it seems like the 4s 175 has an angled “V” shaped rear (when viewed from above). That would probably help negate some of the extra length with the motor trimmed down and turned fully to one side as compared to the 2s PRo XS 175. Don do you agree?
