Should be able to but if you cut through an aluminum cross member under the front deck I would fabricate and install some support bars for under the front deck to support / stiffen it. Support bars from the cross member you cut through to the stringers in the hull. It may take some fabrication to make it work.

My VT17 has one from the factory, so yes I think you would be fine. Just measure twice cut once.
