    Removing scratches from outboard

    Hey guys,

I have some scratches in my engine cowl from ducking under tree branches and what not. They're not super deep and I'm pretty sure they'll buff out. My question is, will there be buffer marks and what not on the area that is noticeable compared to the rest of the cowl that I didn't touch.

I was planning on using the following process to buff out the scratches:

I'll be using a dual action polisher from Harbor Freight.

This is same stuff and process I used to take out oxidation in the gelcoat and remove minor scratches. I'm totally open to different products or processes to remove the scratches and make it look new again.

    Thanks!

Really need a pic of the problem areas. Can’t tell if sanding is needed. What grit is the Marine 31 heavy cut and what does it final as? Same for the polish? A dual action machine is not designed to cut. In most cases it was just scratch to the grit as the product that it’s being used for. It needs to be used in the later stages not the beginning.

Good luck, I hit mine with light compound and it burned through the clear.

Keep in mind I've been doing this for years. Just bought some black base and clear coat.

Let’s see some pics....with the correct product you shouldn’t have any issues buffing even sanding...I just not familiar with the products you’re using. Text me direct if needed. 919-631-2019

Here's a pic of the scratches, as you can see it's nothing major. There's a couple similar ones on top of the cowl too

Shouldn’t be a problem to hide...shoot me a text and we can set up a quick call. Way to much to text.
