Compression Test
Getting ready to buy a 2000 Ranger 518vx Comanche with an 2005 Evinrude 200 E-TEC HO. I’m not real mechanical but I have heard that on an outboard compression test is if the lower Compression number and higher number are more than 10-15 apart then you probably have yourself a problem engine. The above engine had a compression Test and these were the numbers starting bottom left and ending bottom right 92-92-92-93-94-94. The engine hadn’t been run in a little over a month and the technician called it a cold test. Are these good numbers? Thanks.

Compression numbers done cold are not a good indication of the engine health. Request a proper compression test and a leak down test to be sure.
