    Clunk when towing?

Just upgraded my puller. Went from a f250 super duty to a ford ranger(2019) when i tow the boat i hear and feel a clunk when starting from lights and stop signs.......never felt it when towing with thw 250...... it might be the slack in the surge brake coming out when i start from a stop......the bed on the ranger is 61” the bed on the 250 was 8’ and maybe i just never noticed it before..... ideas?

Insert slop? Air in brake lines? Slop in actuator? Ball height lower than before?

You may need a new damper shock.

Just maybe you don't have any brakes, disconnect the electric and back up. If it doesn't resist you have a brake issue. A lot of the time the receiver needs a tapped hole and a bolt to lock the two pieces together to stop noise, but I'd be concerned about the 2 inches of travel.

Double check that your master cylinder is full. If not, fill and bleed.

Master cylinder could be low on fluid or The shock is bad.

If you can push the actuators in and pull it out, problem with master cylinder. Could be fluid

The shock in the actuator is most likely gone bad. VERY common issue! Not a bad job to replace. I just get a complete new actuator assembly and keep the old one for parts.

I had the same issue one time and this was my problem. Not a hard job to replace it.

I don't like any jerking or jarring when I'm towing a boat so I bought one of these and it definitely made a difference. I also bought Gen-Y's Glyder hitch and really like it. https://genyhitch.com/product/hitch-tightener/
