Don't know who installed the one on my 196, but it is 20" from the bow strap hook.
I installed mine about 4 inches below the hook. The hook on a 196 is insanely low IMHO. A pain really.

hello bob,i think i will wait till saturday then my son said he would give me a hand, looks like a extra hand will be nice, because its a one time stick on,one thing i did notice is it starts off in a vee at bow hook and about 6' down it turns almost flat
Make sure to add clear RTV silicone to outer areas of keelshield, it will seal the ends if they were to get free from water from freeing the rest of the shield from hull, I had a dealer do that and worked great! Just FYI!

i keep on doing one more step and thought its time to stick it on,went right on perfect, now i get to clean my mess up from scuffing the hull,my son called and said he was on the way and i told him i done got it done,he said i knew there was no way you was going to wait lol
If I am not too late, may suggest using 3M 4200 sealant over silicone? You will have a better, longer lasting bond.
