    Question Walking the dogbaits

Have always thrower fire line. But now every other cast it is hanging around front hook and sometimes both hooks. It has a split ring. What are you guys doing to prevent this from happening

I run #40 braid main line and a short (6”-12”) leader of #17 mono. That short heavier mono is much stiffer than the braid. If I had a spoil of 20-25 that’s what I’d use

Some guys superglue the first foot or so of the braid to keep from grabbing hooks
I prefer mono on a spook but you can really make it dance with braid.

You can also put some chapstick on about the first 6” of the braid, and that will stiffen it up enough to keep it from tangling. Just have to reapply as needed here and there

This. I use Maxima Ultragreen 17 lb just because that's what I have. It's also thicker than most other brands, so probably equivalent to 20-25 lb. I go about 18 inches on the leader, just so I can retie a few times.

When I use straight braid with a Spook I change the way I throw it. Instead of just casting the lure like normal, I thumb the spool and slow it down as it falls. This makes the lure line up right and not catch the hooks in the air. Now if you’re talking about catching your line while retrieving the lure, then walk it a little faster and without as much walk.

I use a palomar when using straight braid, no need for a loop knot.

But, when all is said and done, I’ve gone to 14lb mono for my tw rods, the braid just wasn’t worth the hassle

I wax the first foot of line similar to waxing a fly line tippet.

I hear people say that with braid and walking baits the line gets hung on the front hook. I use 40-50lb braid and it doesnt happen to me. So idk what im doing differently
