Question Asking for a friend 2007 HPDI 150 hp battery choice???

My friend just found out his battery is 8 years old so his mechanic replaced it for him while doing some other work. He said he had the wrong battery in it because it wasn't a cranking battery it was a deep cycle battery and that wasn't good. But I'm wondering if a regular starting battery will hold up with running livewells, fishfinders and talon all day during a tournament??? any info will be greatly appreciated

I have used a large deep cycle battery for 20 years to run my big motor, Yamaha 225 and electronics and all other 12 volt accessories and never had a problem.

Depends on the battery. There are cranking batteries, dual purpose batteries and trolling motor only batteries. All marine deep cycle. I run a dedicated marine cranking battery and have in 3 boats now. Had problems before draining a battery with graphs but battery was too small.
