Blackstone 36 inch griddle: Tell me what I need to know/get before first use

Early fathers day gift. Have a 36 inch Blackstone griddle coming next week, but I didn't get any accessories yet because I'm not sure what i need. Also, any advice on seasoning it before the first use and keeping it clean after each use. It will be kept outside, but in a protected area so not sure if a hard top cover is necessary.

    Thanks.

High lignin flaxseed oil to season it. Usually going to say organic on the bottle if it’s the high lignin. Well worth the price and wait.

You are going to want a scraper and two of the flexible spatulas. Likely a cover depending on where you store it.

I use a hard cover with a plastic dish on it then a soft cover over that.

In addition to the scraper and spatulas, tongs, water/oil bottles and a baster cover are nice to have. We use the Blackstone aluminum pans for the grease trap. I clean them and use them a few times before tossing.

You're gonna want a nice quality scraper. Not the shitty kind that's rectangle but the ones that look like a putty knife. Better leverage,

I just got the one with the air fryer baskets under it and I am loving it. I am a noob with it so not a lot advice yet but I have taken back the grilling duties from the wife. To me its more fun to cook on and the food has more flavor and stays juicy.

    Thumbs Up

Grape seed oil will work for seasoning it. You can find it in your grocery store isle. I would advise you to get a large stainless steal bowl, the spatulas, a couple of plastic bottles for water and oil, and a good metal scraper for clean up. I use the water and stainless steel bowl to help melt cheese. Cook the burgers then when they are done toss on the cheese, spray a little water on the griddle and cover with the bowl. The steam will melt the cheese in about 10 seconds. You are going to love it. Between my BGE, Pellet Smoker and the Blackstone I never cook in the house.

ketchup or mustard type (condiment) bottle for oil. the pointy ones lol!
a couple of good wide spatulas for smashing burgers.
good tongs for dogs, sausages and other stuff.
a GOOD scraper,, i use a 6" Hyde sheet rock joint knife, it works awesome..
lots of paper towels and a few clean rags.

i have the cover that covers the entire grill, i wish i had the hard flip up cover.
once it seasoned good clean up is easy. while it is still warm, wipe with paper towel, scrape stickys with joint knife, wipe again, lightly oil the griddle, empty the grease trap, done. takes about 3 or 4 minutes tops.

I bought a drywall scraper, stainless steel, from home depot and it's one of the best things I've gotten for it. Its thin , strong, and just flexible enough to do the tough cleaning after cooking. Of course I use it as a spatula too. I think it's a 6 inch wide model

Looks like everyone has pretty much covered what you may want to have to go along with it. We love ours.

We got the Blackstone tins to go in the grease trap. Going to look for some cheaper ones. I found ones that fit our Weber at Walmart. Need to see if I can find some for the griddle too. The name brand ones will get pricey over time.

Does anyone use the scour pads for cleaning it or just a quality scraper?

Might want to get yourself a Costco sized bundle of paper towels.

So, do you turn the burner knobs wide open and use the regulator to control the flame or ??? Got a link to one?

Whatever you use to season it as far as Oil goes, when you use your wad of paper towels to spread the grease, use some sort of tool, not your hands, on the paper towels. No matter how careful you are, seems like you always get at least a little burned! Trust me.....

You can use the knobs or the regulator to adjust the heat. Either way you will get a lot more flame.
