    250 SS on Ranger Z520

My father is contemplating a repower as he has a 2009 Etech with 1000 hrs. Since evinrude is stepping away from outboards he is looking at other brands. Most of all he wants low maintenance and reliability. He never runs the boat over 60 so it’s concerned with speed but desires holeshot and longevity. Anyone have any advice out there regarding this boat/motor combo??

You can try messaging or emailing Jake520 since he has a 250SS on his Ranger. I'm not sure if he ever got his boat propped correctly since he wasn't get the desired top end on his boat. Unfortunately, that's the biggest complaint about Suzuki on any bass boat since they run a different gear ratio in the lower unit and getting the right prop is difficult. However, for your father, if he has the dealer put on a 4 bladed Suzuki 27P, he'll be able to run mid 60's and still have great hole shot even during the heat of summer. Below is the boat test for a 250SS on a Ranger using a 30P prop, but I believe that's using an older style Suzuki prop that was similar to the Turbo OT4 props which had better bite.

In my opinion: stick with the Evinrude until it pops. With them getting out of the motor business the used value can be anywhere from nothing to not so much. It's hard to tell what the competitors will do, maybe raise their prices or lower side benefits like warranties.

I'd stick with what he has. Otherwise, if he isn't interested in speed, put the 200SS on it and save some $$$

I have a Phx 921 with a Suzuki 250SS. 2 years old, starts every time, super quiet , 6 year warranty. My first one, am really starting to love it.

Yes, Red... what prop on your 921? I got a buddy that runs a Phx (not sure model) with a 250SS and 4 blade 29P and seems to be really happy with it. Says hole shot is great, mid range is great and it's plenty fast.. what are you seeing with yours?

I saw a video where Tom Monsoor on the FLW/MLf tour is running a Suzuki 250SS on his Ranger, anyone have any insight on what prop these guys are running on 520/521

Probably a Solas Scorpion. If he has FB page, I'd just message him and see what he says.

I’ve heard really mixed reviews on the scorpion. Complaint being that they run great for awhile but the metal is soft and with the torque of motors that the blades flatten out and lose their cup, eventually not being able to maintain their functional form. That being said I have no personal experience with this.

I have a 2020 Suzuki 200 on my 19'5" Stratos. I would not describe it as speedy, but it will do low 60's. I got the hole shot issues sorted out. If he needs 65+ I'd recommend a 250.

I have a 2019 250SS, with Mercury Fury 26p prop, running it on a 2013 Nitro Z9, with 3/4 take of gas and tournament load and 5 lead batteries and getting 67.6 gps. I’ve had it almost 8 months now and love it. It’s also very good on gas.
