Different contrast between units, what gives?

I replaced my live 9 with a new live 12, same transducer, same everything, just swapped the head unit. On my 9, my side scan contrast setting was A+2 for a killer image. Ok the new live 12, it takes A-4 to get it cleared up! Any specific reason why this would be? Water condition/clarity? I really feel like I am not getting quiet as clear of a pic on the 12 as I was the 9. The only thing changed was I wired the 12 direct so it is getting 12+ volts at ALL times. My 9 would drop below 12 when the boat was off because I had it powered off the bus bar under the dash.

Were they both running the same software / firmware revision?

Same thing with Humminbird. I was told it's the screen size and manufacture of the screen. Like a 45" TV vs a 75" tv.

The screen resolution is for sure different on those two units.
