Could have been a lot worse

Late yesterday afternoon a friend called me to go on a night fishing trip, so about 6:15 he arrives from his 20 minute trip from home.
I grab my tackle, rods and rain gear and off we go out the back way which is gravel and narrow traveling about 10 MPH startup the second incline and BAM the receiver hitch comes out of truck, winch stand had smashed into the bumper, safety chains caught the trailer. The receiver pin was nowhere to be found, he had another hitch complete with a pin in his tool box. We used a scissor jack to raise the trailer tongue up high enough to get the dolly down, got back on the road again, just glad if it had to happen it happened where it did and not on the big road running 60 mph. How the keeper came off the hitch pin remains a mystery.

I will start looking at my hitch pin every time that the boat is hooked up!

I've been meaning to get a new hitch pin for a while now, my pin and clip are getting really rusted. I think I need to make it a priority.

Glad it wasn’t worse. I would have needed to change my undies.

Same happened to my friend one day after a tournament. I was pulling him back up the ramp when it hit the ground. My only guess is kids thinking it’s funny.

Yes. And it isn't funny....they would agree...if they got caught.

So do I but be sure to take if off occasionally and lube it with some lock ease.
