Agree with several of the above commenters. I’d get it rebuilt and drive the heck out if. The rest of the truck will likely last a bit longer.

Should be able to get a new tranny or have that one rebuilt for way less than 7 grand. No way I would pay that.

How is anything failing with that few miles acceptable. In today's world those miles are nothing.

I need to get back in the transmission business .... I still remember cringing the first time I told someone 2500 for an R&R and rebuild

Don’t think I could say 7k without falling out of my chair

Brand new 6l80E can be had for less than 4K. Replacing an automatic transmission is actually a very easy DIY job. Hardest part is lifting it up in the car while on jackstands.

Had a transmission go out on a 88 astro van and decided to save money and pull it and put new one in, got it done but asked the shop that i bought the transmission from how much more would have he charged to do the labor. transmission was 2200 and he would have done the whole thing for 2500. Should have let the shop do it .

My buddy just had the tranny on his 2016 Silverado rebuilt with less than 90k on the clock. And I've been told the HEMI with the 6 speed auto behind it isn't a good combo and was advised to drive like a granny. Have to be careful with this truck because it builds up speed so fast so driving sensibly is no problem.

As has been said, a rebuild is the way to go. It should be a 4l80e, or a 4l60e in that truck. Any good, reputable transmission shop can rebuild that trans in 2 days and make it way stronger than stock.

The question is why did it go? I know they had some cooling issues during that time but unless you towed a serious amount of weight a lot it’s odd for a trans to just let go unless the converter went.

    Best of luck!

    If it is a 2007 then the 4L60E or 4L80E would be an option. If it's a 2017 then 6L80 or 8L90. If it's a 2107 well.....I don't know what the future holds.

The torque converter grenaded and took out the tranny on my friend's 2016 Silverado.
