    QC10WEP vs. QC12WEP

I recently purchased a boat with a 2004 Evinrude 225 HO - I am putting new plugs in the engine. BRP calls for QC12WEP although in the engine is QC10WEP. I know the only difference is the heat range. Was there any advantage for the 10's to be in the engine? Is it better to run a little cooler plug? Should I see a change in performance vs. each plug.

I am having difficulty locating the Champion QC10WEP...also known as 9005 locally for pick up...is there a good cross referenced ,plug that will work as well or better? Maybe an NGK plug?

    Thank you for your time!

Your engine requires QC12PEP plugs or the optional QC10WEP. Your numbers are incorrect.

Any auto parts store should carry the plugs you need, I've found them at Napa, Advance auto parts.

None of the stores mentioned above had these in stock...Napa could order them, however, I wouldn't have received them well into the 1st week of June. Rockauto will have them to me by 5/29 and 3.00 less per plug. of course I paid a little for shipping...still cost less and will have them sooner.

I got this email years ago from them. I use the iridium 9005. cheapest I've found is ebay.

    Dear

The QC10WEP spark plug has been approved for use in the Evinrude 3.3 liter direct injection (D.I.) engines for model years 2001 – 2005.
Please note that the QC12PEP spark plug is still acceptable for use in your engine. Regardless of whether you choose to install the QC10WEP or the QC12PEP - each spark plug should be indexed and gapped at no more than 0.030".

Thank you for contacting BRP Evinrude allowing the opportunity to review your inquiry and reply.

Should have ordered 8 for indexing you're bound to get one or two that won't index correctly.

Got a lump in my throat when I read that as well. Ive never had 6 that would index. Always takes 8 and luckily my other e rude buddies swap around so its really not money lost.

    I didn't get lucky....1 wouldn't index.
I ordered 4 more...now I'll have spares for next time I buy plugs.

If you bought the 10's then you need to change Tstats to 5005440 Etec Tstat.

10's were in the boat when I bought it...I'm still going to check the tstat's. 2 of the plug had some carbon build up
