What happened to simon tuning? Alternatives?

So i was going to send my ecu in to be tuned on my mercury 150 four stroke. I had been messaging him and was ready to send it in.

Now he is no longer tuning mercury engines. And all the posts he had on here are gone. Anyone know what happened?

and is there an alternative for my engine tuning? I really want to tune it and this has messed up my plans.

Possibly has something to do with Service Bulletin 19-08.

I would guess more a matter of a legal issue like intellectual property rights or emissions tampering. You don't just quit a cash cow like that for no reason.

What I don't understand is if someone is willing to wave their rights to warranty and run the software then what's the issues?

this is my thoughts exactly. I never care about warranty... my $65k truck was less than a year old when i tuned it voiding the warranty....

i wish i had a way to tune it myself, but I’m lacking the skills and equipment lol.

Sounds like Mercury probably sent out cease and desist letters to all these tuners.

Probably EPA. Similar to what is happening in the diesel tuning market.

It is a slippery slope because where is the line drawn on modifications? Should it be illegal to put bigger tires on your truck? Bigger tires makes your truck use more fuel. What if you want to do a tune up your self and you put in non factory spark plugs or oil? Does that mean you broke the law. Does that mean you can only buy parts from the dealership?

Several of them, actually. From the end-user's standpoint, they're only thinking about their engine, when in reality, there's a whole lot more involved (just a brief list):

-EPA Regulations and potentially Significant Fines for modifying the emissions or HP footprint from it's original configuration

    -Proprietary AND Copyrighted Engine Calibrations

-Emissions Warranty Requirements on the Manufacturer

-Safety Concerns and legal ramifications of possibly over-powering a boat

Been down this road many times. I've turbo'ed cars before that got better mpg had more power and ran cleaner. But wouldn't pass a VISUAL smog lol.

Like my ram 2500 that if tuned will get 20 mpg and gets 13 now with smog crap. So I'm burning 7 mpg more how is that cleaner?

    It's a slippery slope.

Me and the wife just got through talking about trading in our current boat. I really want an Allison with a mercury, but if mercury is going to stop everyone from tuning them i guess I’ll have to look at Yamaha.... I’ve been a mercury guy for 15+years, but I really am rethinking it now
