    Battery meter

Just curious if anyone has or could reccomend some sort of battery meter to keep a eye on the usage of the trolling motor batteries throughout the day. I recently bought a new Ranger RT188 and even though it everything is new it might be nice to see what's going on.

Thanks in advance. BTW this forum is awesome and helped with my boat buying decision. Let the mods begin.

No ultrex, nothing fancy just a regular trolling motor.

There are gauge setups for that. There are other options this link is one just to give you an idea Seen guys install a gauge like this at the bow with a momentary switch to check throughout the day. To be honest tho if you run good batteries and keep them charged you likely wont ever have any trouble. The trolling motor will tell you if one battery or both get run down it wont have as much power and whether you have the gauge or not it still ends your day to recharge or figure out if you have a bad battery.

I use the Ultrex remote to check mine, but this will work well without the Ultrex.

I have a some lithium batteries with this meter built in. Sooo I bought one, put it in a waterproof box and have a quick disconnect wired to the foot pedal for when I want to use it---rarely do.

I have never worried about the TM batteries. Charge them when you get home and change them out when they get weak. I do check the starting battery sometimes by using a little digital cig lighter plug and plugging it into the cig lighter receptacle at the console. If you just want a quick check and seldom need it, you could rig one of these. They are cheap and they work. But I think you will find that you don't need one.

I think Minn Kota makes a little battery checker for around $20 if that is the kind you are referring to.

My Polarkraft came with one up front in the bow area. Dont use it too often, but it's nice to have.

I too like to know the condition of my batteries, so when I added some AGM batteries and a new cranking battery last month I decided to add a battery meter for each battery so that I could tell at a glance what the state of charge and discharge is. This is a photo of it as I was topping off the battery this afternoon. They are housed in a waterproof gasketed box with separate waterproof on/off switches. Wasn't expensive, seems like it was about $25 or so, and a few hours of time.

Depending on what batteries your electronics are hooked up to, my Garmin shows the voltage on the screen. I’m sure you could wire in a switch to change what battery your electronics are hooked up to in order to check their voltage.

Personally, it’s not an issue for me. I know my Noco charges my batteries to 14.45volts and I check my batteries every month or so after they have sat for 24 hours.

Now if I could only afford lithium’s with an app to check them! That would be cool!
