    Terrible holesjot

1998 190 dc with a 1998 mercury 200efi with 8” detailed jack plate. Prop to pad is 3 1/2. Prop is a 25 tempest plus, just worked and like new with 3 large pvs plugs. Yesterday the boat would take a long time to get on plane. I’m talking 10-12 seconds. Couple times, I let off and tried a second time to get on plane. No water in the live well and 3/4 tank of fuel. Not sure if I carry a heavy load. I cleaned out the boat and weighed all the tackle, rods, etc and it was around 170lbs. I have one 31 series and two 24 trolling motor batteries. Should I try different pvs plugs? Thanks

I'd pull all the plugs, or at least two. At times, I run a 24 and a 25 Tempest Plus. I have only one large hole PVS plug in with the other two completely open in each prop. I also run a 25 Fury with no plugs.

What is a “detailed jack plate”?

Ed, I suspect there might be a difference between the 190 and the 198 set-up.

Yup, time to play with plugs. Pull em all and start adding and subtracting as needed.

    Prob meant Detwiler jackplate.

Buddy of mine had a 190, we tried just about every prop made and different prop to pad measuresments. His boat had to be at 4.5” to run right, not sure why, but it sucked at 3.5”.

What kind of rpms are you turning while trying to get on plane? If you’re turning over 3k, you need smaller plugs. Might be too much prop too.

My buds 190 had an instant holeshot and ran great, just a bit skinny to fish out of.

i run a 1993 190 DCX gas tank in the rear a 25" trophy. very good hole shot no jack plate, prop worked by Mark Croxton.
i owned 2 other 190,s terrible hole shot the 2 stroke 200 EFI engines were sluggish with the fuel tank under seats.
i owned a 203, 198 and a 200 all had good hole shots but the 225 HP were 3.1 and 3.5 litre engines.

If it's a detweiler hydraulic, and it's not set correctly, that plate is like sticking a snow shovel in the water. Might want to check that first.

But a cheap spark plug test light and check your ignition coils. I had one go out and that’s all it was. YouTube it, easy to do.
