1990 Evinrude 150 xp. Starts but won't stay running

So this motor, and boat are new to me. I've managed to get it to start several times. It starts and runs for about 2.5 seconds then dies. If I hold in push to choke on key switch it runs longer until I let go of key. I assume that there is a primer feeding it gas while I'm holding choke. Which makes me think fuel pump possibly not functioning. When it does run, it runs very fast, again I assume primer feeding it unmetered gas. Any knowledgeable folks who can give me a good place to start would be appreciated.

If you pull the shift handle out towards you as you found out yesterday, and advance the throttle will it accelerate?

I couldn't get it to run long enough to do that. One time I preset the warm up lever and it started and ran super fast but still died
