What gear case do I have

    Hello Don,

    Feb 2009 250 Pro Xs L #1B737378

I need to know what gear case this one came with? Is the model number somewhere on the gear case itself?

    Is it 8m0072952

Can I use any other lower unit with this engine? Pros and cons? The reason I asked is that I think when they replaced it back in 2012 under warranty, they replaced it with a different lower unit I think. Anyways I am a bit confused with this. Also which lower unit is the most reliable?

Incidentally mine is black in color.

    Thank you,

    Tom

72952 is a gen 1 torque master, from the looks of your other post pic you have a verado case on it now which I would def stay with look at prop shaft if it uses plastic hub kit and is 1 in diameter with no wedge to skeg should be verado, much better gearcase on there MR TOM see ya later, ps; that cav plate prob could be fixed but I only know a few that could do it to my standards and youd need a junker for part to be used for welding , hope ins takes care of it

Not sure why two posts on this... but the picture you posted is an original-equipment type Gen-1 Torquemaster gearcase.

Not sure what boat you have this on... some boats will see a moderate change/loss in performance jumping from a Gen-1 TM to a Verado-Style.
