What has been your favorite model and why?

    I've had 3 Tritons, a 99 TR-21dc and an 04 and 05 TR-196dc's.

The 196's are certainly squirrelly at the top end, but almost as fast with 200's as the 21 was with a 225 and the fuel economy much improved. Besides having a smaller gas tank in the 196's and not as good in the rough I noticed the handling seemed a little goofy when docking (not going exactly where pointed) and certainly harder to keep in a straight line fishing in the wind.

Possibly considering a newer boat and have gotten old enough to value ride and fuel economy over all out speed with something capable in the low 70's and better rough water ride as well as at least 52 gallons of fuel a plus for the long rides at Powell so thought I'd ask what boats over the years have been your favorites and why?

I won't be buying anything that isn't at least 5 years old. Prices for new stuff (as well as trucks) is absolutely crazy. Thanks!

I've had three as well. Bought a 1998 Tr18 new and it was a fun boat. Sold it and bought a 1998 Tr20 from my best friend. Both of those were fun to drive. Kept it four or five years and bought a 2005 Tr21XPD. I love the 2005 as it is the perfect combination of good ride and good fishing platform.

05 21x. Been in a lot of em and still like the overall performance of the 04-06 boats. They sure haven't changed a lot in 15 years to justify a new one either

1999 TR-21, because its lighter than the newer ones, which makes it FASTER!

LOVED my 2004 TR196 with the 3.0L 200hp efi. It had an edge of your seat feel when driving. I miss that boat.

Somehow I've never considered 46 gallons a smaller tank. :) Especially at the gas pump.

Tanks for the replies. I mention a little more fuel capacity as a 150mile round trip at Lake Powell it's limited fuel resources can be challenging.
i agree to most positive points about the 2 196's I've had (still have one). It's a good overall boat even with the goofy lean coming off plane despite the weight in the passenger side and it does everything pretty well.
Just a little larger boat possibly for 3 folks fishing and a little better rough water ride would be a plus...but there NO way I'd spend what they are asking for these days for a bassboat.
My brother just paid $90k for a Vexus...WTH???

And the 196 above 70 is definitely an "edge of your seat" feel. Oh yeah!

I've been in several tritons but last year I bought my first triton. It's a 2009 21 hp pro with a 250 pro xs. I love it so much I decided to repower with the new 250 pro xs 4 stroke. It was an easy decision to repower vs being in debt 65-75k for a new one that is loaded down like my current boat.

My 2014 21 TrX was the best boat I’ve ever had of any variety. I wish they hadn’t recalled it. My 2020 21 TrX is a close second.

I agree. I would not trade my 21 HP for any boat out there. Fish ability, speed, handling, rough water .....best I have ever fished out of and drove. I have not fished out of the new Tritons but i have been told quite a few times by people that own them, that I am not missing anything although the new Tritons are great boats too. Can't beat those HP hulls.

Out of the 00 Tr 20 200hp, 04 21X 225hp, 08 19X2 225hp, and current 14 20XS 250hp I by far liked the 2004 21X. Should have put a 250hp on it and kept it. Best trailer too after I changed the oil hubs to grease.

Had. 2005 TR-186LE with a Mercury 175 Opti. Fast and fun lil rig. Boat was My first Triton and loved it. Now I have a 2018 TR20 Patriot loaded, with the new Mercury 250 4 stroke beast. Got a great deal for only 57k new. Love the Triton brand.
