Year round, and mainly spotted bass fishing, Lake Russell. For big largemouths, Clarks Hil and Murray.

In my Opinion santee is the best bass lake. You can catch them year around and any cast could be a pb.

Depending on your age, look for an area that good medical and health care, and a good cost of living. Which lake is the best, just depends on who you ask. Me personally, I like them all.

Move to Camden and you'll have Wateree 10 minutes away....Murray little over an hour away....Santee Cooper 45 minutes away. Don't let the ones discourage you with the stump comments. You can be careful down there and catch bass over 7 lbs weekly

If you move to SC to target Santee, be sure to remember it can be one of the most crowded lakes you will ever see in your entire life in the spring. In addition to the stump danger, you will mostly have to line up to fish a spot once the word gets out the lake is on fire for pre spawn.

    Crowded is an understatement.

Pretty sure this is a problem anywhere you go in the country! I grew up here on the Cooper River and Lakes Marion and Moultrie. Are they crowded in the spring? Sure they are but having fished from one side of the country to the other I don’t think they’re any more crowded than any other place whether it be in the spring or otherwise. Clear Lake out in Northern California during the spawn provides one with the proverbial ability to “walk from boat to boat” all the way across the lake.

There's no crowd at all in the Fall on Santee...crowded in the Spring and people still catch 25lb bags

Born and raised in SC. I would buy a house around Monk's Corner on the lower lake. That way I could fish from Santee to the Atlantic. Where I would be right now but I am staying close to my elderly parents. Lake Wateree would be my 2nd choice.

I’m in central NC, but I would live close to hartwell any day of the week if I could. That is the best lake I’ve ever fished in sc and I’ve been to most of them. There are plenty that will argue, just speaking my experience.

good one kb. Seriously though, don't overlook the "little" lakes. Robinson, Blalock, Bowen are all good fishing lakes and you're right in the Hub for all the big lakes, including NC. Jocassee, Keowee, Hartwell Russell, Greenwood, Murray, Monticello, Wateree, Wylie, Norman, Hickory, James all within 1hr - 1hr 30min.
