    Crestliner vt18 Prop Suggestions

    Right now I have a 19P Spitfire x7 on a Mercury ProXS115.

    RPMS- 44 mph @ 5300

Should I drop a pitch to raise my RPMS? Will this increase speed? Or just make the motor more efficient?

What is the maximum RPMs for your motor? Do you have a jack plate? If so have you tried raising it?

6200 is max. No jackplate but I have raised the motor to the 4th mounting hole.

If your tachometer is correct, you are way over propped. You should reach within 100 RPMs from your maximum

If drop to a 17p and get the RPM's up to an acceptable range.... Will I see a speed increase? Effciency increase?

If your motor makes more HP at higher rpms, You can gain speed by dropping pitch. Also all other areas of performance get better. Holeshot and acceleration.

To make sure everything is right you need to get vessel view mobile or something to read the rpms correctly off the motor not an analog gauge those can be off 300-400rpm easily

What jg379 said...I had the same boat and motor as you and the tach was not very accurate. I used a 19P 4 blade prop and could get 44-45 mph at about 6k RPMs. I tried raising and lowering the motor but settled on one hole higher than it came from the factory. I also had a 20P Laser II 3 blade. It would go faster but handled worse. It turned around 6K rpms and would run 45-46 mph but was loose in turns and didn't have the same hole shot or load carrying as the 19P 4 blade. I raised the motor all the way up and tried both props there as well. I could touch 50 mph at 6300 rpms but it was a dog out of the hole and drove like crap.

i have same boat and motor same thing you going through tried 17 pitch gained rpm but no speed change, had my motor checked at 35 hrs found my rpm gauge was off about 400 rps, Iput the 19 back on not going to get much better than 45 with load
