I know a lot of you guys hate Facebook, but there's a lot of good pics and videos of just how bad this is. There's a page called air born angler, he is a pilot and does lots of fly overs especillay during winter to show us the ice conditions on Saginaw bay. Here's a video from somebody else, and then I will post some of the pics from airborne angler. With all the shit we are dealing with as a nation and here in Michigan, this is just freaking nuts!!!

Is it just due to extreme rain that the dam couldn’t handle or was it a neglect issue where the dam wasn’t properly maintained?

Thank you. Anyone who knows the area, this is what used to be the
m-30 bridge. It was only 20 years old maybe, concrete construction
It flowed water thru and was big enough for most lake boats to.pass under, which combines the Tobacco and Titabawassee rivers to form "Wixom Lake"

    depends who you ask....
It was a historic rain storm, yes. There were warnings about this very scenario in recent years. Someone could write a book on this subject.

Words cant even described something like this. Never thought it would have happened "at home". Im glad the majority of this happened during daylight hours and that Sanford held up as long as it did otherwise I think things could be much worse right now for Midland.

I'm thinking that having the downtown area under 9 feet of water is pretty tragic.

Was this a series of storms that led to this? In the article, they said areas got 3-4 inches of rain. Around here, 3-4 inches of rain would flood some of our creeks, but it's not going to cause the devastation like that. Sorry to see this happen.

We've already had a wet spring. There were several rains last week that soaked the ground, and then this big rain touched it off.

Agreeing that being 9 foot under is tragic. Unfortunately this is not the first time downtown has been underwater. That area of the river is notorious for flooding out with heavy rainfall in the spring(not like this but it flooded back in 2018 also)
