    Windy Weather Advice

How much wind is too much wind to go out? What's your threshold for staying home?

Anything steady above 25, will cause me to reconsider.

I’ll regularly fish in 15-20mph winds. Not on the Great Lakes though

Depends on the lake and the direction. Also depends on launch options. Ill fish a small bay on Champlain gusting 30+ but go nowhere near the main lake.

I do not like fishing in wind above 15 mph ..I can but I will usually find someplace to fish out of the wind. Once the water starts white capping, it becomes no fun to me.

If we are having Santa Ana winds or forecasts are anything above 20mph, I wouldn't attempt it.

Don't go from shore fishing to fishing in a boat in what ever wind, but do t be scared of 15-20 mph, then as you get experience going in that go to 23-25 mph, then after that go further till you find you line for pleasure and confidence. Just wear your life jacket and kill tether.

I know what feels, or even looks, more rough than I want to launch into, but I still don't have a feel for what the weather forecast and wind information is for those rough conditions. I understand that lake size and layout affects the waves ability to ruin a day. I hate loading and driving to the lake only to find it was more than I was ready for. Thanks for the advice all.
