    NC Title Registration Transfer

    Hi All,

Great informative site here. Browsed as a guest for a long time but joined now that I'm finally buying a boat. It's my first boat purchase in NC. Looking for guidance on the easiest/best way to transfer. Tried searching here and google but I'm still unclear.

Can both boat and trailer be accomplished at a License Plate Agency?

The seller has titles for the boat and trailer. Do I need a bill of sale also?

If my bank notarizes both titles do I need the seller present for any other part of the process?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Some DMV offices do both trailer and vessel registration.
In NC you can also get a multiyear tag for not much more than the regular tag, then you don't have to worry about renewals for a few years.

A regular tag is $25, and a multi-year is $98, and good until 2099. Not transferrable, but if you plan to keep it more than 4 years then it is a good deal. With a multi-year you have to list the trailer on your county tax listing and pay your property taxes on it. They don't let the taxes slide. Like I said, after 4years you save $25/yr, and possibly more if the tag price goes up.

Just an update in case someone has the same question in the future.

Took both titles with the seller's notarized signature to the license plate agency. Completed the transfer and registration of both boat and trailer. Unsure if all license plate agencies can accomplish the boat portion.
