Coin Box for my RT 188

Almost done with my Coin Box I made for my RT 188. Have not put the hinge on or permanently mounted it yet. Going to look at it a couple days to make sure I like it. What ya think? I also purchased the deck step for it. I may not use it because I think I like the open floor better and if I keep the coin box really don't need the storage. Also ordered new (2020) seats for it. Ranger said 2 - 3 months for those.

Looks really nice. If one didn't know better they would think it came from the factory like that.

Great Job. I made one for my RT188 and think it is the best addition I have made.

. What material did you use for the box?

1/2" plywood for bottom and sides. 3/4" for the lid (not shown). I put a couple coats of paint on it before I glued and stapled the carpet down. Got the carpet from Ranger.

That looks incredible, really well done. If my wife didn't like the "bench" seat on the boat so much I'd definitely do what you did. That is some nice additional storage since the glove box on these boats is kind of small.

I have a question. Are the seats that on the front and back deck the same as the ones that mount in the lower area?

I don't know. I bought mine used and it did not come with them.

NICE! I like how you have it opening from the back too. Good job!
Looks like you might be able to add a small gas shock on it.

Thanks. I added a stainless steel lanyard so I could open the lid just past 90 deg and it will stay there. Also added a USB charging port inside.

That a great looking day box. I have one on my Bass Cat and would like to replace the center seat on my G3 with a day box. I would like to have one with out carpet as my flooring is vinyl. I think all boat manufactures that build boats with a center seat should have that as a option.

    That looks factory.

But wouldn’t you want the opening towards the front? Otherwise you have to go to the back deck to get access to it. When I’m in the boat, I spend the most time on the front deck fishing, in the driver’s seat, or sitting on the edge of the front deck rigging. It seems like all three of those spots would benefit from a front opening.

A couple reasons for it. For me it's for holding cell phone, vapor stuff, sun screen, keys, etc... (I even added a USB charging port inside it) Things really not pertaining to fishing. This way you can open it while running at low speeds without anything flying out. My Ranger 188 VS had one from the factory and they were opened from the rear as well. But, the biggest reason, in this design if you hinged it from the rear you would not be able to open it past 90 deg (it that) because the back top of the lid would hit the back wall not allowing it to open as much as needed.

I opened mine to the front, but not for any particular reason. Just seemed to fit the design I had in mind.

Looks great Bill. I'm also in the middle of adding the front deck step. Should be done tomorrow. And my new seats (the ones that are in the 2020 boats) should be in next month.
