Fasted I ever went on my 98 with a 250proxs was 76 at 5800 rpm. Previous owner claimed 80, I never tried to max it. One power pole

    DETAILS...
69 mph at 5,800 is a lot of slip. Let's find out why...
    203/250 running a 26 tempest should be a solid 75 mph rig.
    The proper setup:
WORKED Tempest, 26 tempest is notorious for being a turd out of the box. It needs to go to Mark here, or Josh at Steve's at fork to have a loving hand put on it.
203/Merc wants a bit more positive trim. if you're not, you should.
Gotta run prop deep enough to get all the lift you can, if you're too high and throwing a big tail and the boat's running flat, there's your start.
Now this is not personal, BUT it is typical. Is 69 all it's got? Full throttle/full trim? Or is 69 all you can drive it?

My 2000 203 with 2014 Mercury 250 xs , duel 8' blades ,10" Atlas , 36 volt Ultrex 52" trolling motor plenty of tackle with 25 gallon of gas on board . The current 25 Tempest has been worked/ tweaked by Mark is getting 74.5 GPS with jack plate with 5 degrees more positive trim with trim extenders. Running jack plate on 7 with the gauge that is about 3.35 below the pad....If I run the tweaked 25 Fury Mark built I can get 76 GPS turning the prop 5900 rpms,

I am in the same boat figuratively speaking. 98- 203 with a 250 pro xb, 26 tempest. Will run 64mph. Have a 10” manual jackplate with engine 2.5” p2p. I will drop it and see how it does.

I think you have issues as well, the XBs are at least as strong as the XS motors.

203 With an XB should run 75 without working hard. You guys certainly have some issues, but not laying eyes on what you've got would make any sort of diagnostics a wild guess.

Champdshull has the right setup, I'm not a huge fan of the 10" plate, but everything else is dead on. If you've got the same thing but not getting the same results, something is amiss.

Lots of variables, 2 that come to mind. Waterlogged boat or motors not reaching wide open throttle. I would start with verifying you are getting true wide open throttle.

Dropped my motor down to 3.3” p2p, hit 72 today; just me in the boat and 3/4 tank of gas. Started walking pretty good at 70.

Don’t let it walk! You are the driver not the boat. Just about all boats will walk at 70 mph if you let it. Can’t stop it very easy after it begins. Seat time will help. Once it starts trim down and slow down. At first you don’t succeed, try try again! You will get it.

Indeed rboren. I’d trim it down slightly and it would straighten up. Was never uncontrollable, just not comfortable. I’ll keep playing with her. I installed all new gauges when purchased the boat (they were all seized) and the rpm’s have to be way off. The tac is pegged out way past 6k, but seems right at 1200 at idle.

Agreed Pat , If I had to do it all over again would have stayed with the 8 or even went to the 6" Atlas plate, if or when I ever have a transom issue down the road I will go back to 8 or 6 for sure........I just converted all the Lithium batteries, took out another 160-170 lbs and she is now running 77 gps running at 5980 rpms on Merc-Monitor. With all my weight shift that I had with the 10" plate and duel power poles I decided to put two of my Lithium batteries in my front box getting all the weight out of the rear end with all those group 31 batteries. Amazing difference with this change in weight shift in the boat.....Defiantly love the new set up....I got sold on Champions back in the day when I was doing boat shows and became one of the Team Champion guys on the Ride and Decide days and met a Crazy guy named Hooper before we got Dave Holiday. I can remember the micro balloon technology and the special order graphite light hulls...That was definitely the days of Champion I remember and the reason why I will always own a piece of boat history in the Champ Hull
