    Huntnfish,

Is it necessary to do the turn and circle calibration procedure if the Ghost is not yet connected to the NMEA2000 network and running standalone without connection to a finder?

If the Heading Sensor is connected and you are wanting to use the anchor lock, calibrating the sensor will provide a more accurate lock. Also doing the keel offset calibration is recommended. I know once I did mine, the anchor lock was much more stable.

I would think it’s still a good idea to do the calibrations if it’s acting as a stand alone unit for sure...I’ve honestly never been asked that question but it definitely wouldn’t hurt!...hope that helps!

I bought a Ghost back in late June and have not really messed around too much with trying to calibrate the heading sensor yet. I did do that bow offset calibration the day I installed it. Yesterday I made a few attempts to try and get the heading sensor calibrated because I am running out of time before I will soon need it for the river. After trying 3-4 times with just the trolling motor to make the circles was unsuccessful I fired up the big motor and had my lady sit on front deck while I did the circles to watch pedal and listen for the beeps. Finally it did flash and beep as it should to alert that the calibration did take. I then backed out of configuration mode and tried anchor lock and something still seems off, it over compensates alot of movements just to stay in the general area but not so accurately on the spot. This was on the river with very little current or wind. Any ideas what could be going on ? Also the puck that came with it, is it a must to use the provided mounting screws that came with it ? I had to use some screws I had because the screws they gave me stripped out immediately with my driver.

    Thanks for any help.

Make sure your replacement screws are non magnetic (i.e. stainless steel).

All of the spot-lock/anchor systems out there will hunt to a certain amount when presented with light or no wind/ current. They are responding to small changes in the boats position, sometimes inperceptable movements to us. They do much better when presented with larger forces acting on the boat

Yes after doing this calibration. My ghost did the same thing. I wish I had never done it. When I hit spot lock it will go backwards 10 feet and then settle in. In used to it now and compensate for it.
