Lowrance Upgrade Questions

I am currently running a Gen2 Touch 12 and a Gen2 Touch 9 with the lss2 transducers.

I am currently thinking about upgrading units with the main goal of improving downscan and side scan image clarity. (Not really interested in 3d or Live Sight.)

With that, a few questions:
1) Will I get material image clarity improvement from jumping to Gen3 units? Did the Gen3s still run on LSS2?
2.) Or, would the image quality materially increase if I were to jump all the way to the Carbon units with the 3 in 1 transducer?
3) Also, is the 3 in 1 transducer the latest and most up to date ducer that Lowrance offers (again, outside of 3D and Live Sight).

Thank you! If I were to get the Carbon units, what ducer would you suggest running on the trolling motor if I want 2D sonar and down imaging?
