05 VZ225TLRD new lower unit question?

My lower unit will be replaced after hitting a rock which damaged the skeg and took out the pinion gears. This will be an insurance claim.My question is about the water pick up. Are there different pickups that I should be aware of when ordering? The reason I ask is my motor overheats at the drop of dime while idling in shallow water with any amount of weeds or slime present. The intake clogs up almost instantly. Just thought there might have been design changes made on newer production lower gear casings that would still fit my 05.

I serviced the pop-it valve and replaced the thermostats, that took care of my problem.

The lower unit will be the same design. That pickup is nasty when you get around slime.
