It depends on which marinas you're talking about. We used to fish out of Conneaut all the time. If the waves got bad, we'd come in the harbor and fish the marinas. The last time I was there, maybe 10 years ago, we were told that after May 1, there is no fishing allowed in the marinas. There was even a sign posted there that I had not seen before. The following day, I called City Hall in Conneaut to confirm and they told me that the city council had passed the ordinance and put the marinas off limits to fishing after May 1. I haven't been back to Conneaut since and now launch out of Ashtabula, which is closer for me anyway. I don't know the extent to which other cities have passed similar laws.

Fish up there all the time on the west end of Erie with zero issues. Also the fishing in the harbors are really good on most days a lot of marinas have ramps and sell gas and food so they welcome our business.

Sandusky is getting more and more problematic about fishing marinas. One of the workers, a young girl, told us there was no fishing in the new city marina and asked us to leave. We left about an hour later.

This should get good. If it's water, you can fish it. Many marina owners will say no but unless something new has come up very recently, you can fish in the marinas.

That's what I would have thought, especially since the Great Lakes are Federal waters. But, the city of Conneaut thinks differently. I suspect that if someone were to take the city to Federal court, the city would lose. But, until someone ponies up the money for an attorney, the local ordinance will stand.

I just smile and wave!! Tell them to call the ODNR, and that I’m sure they aren’t busy with anything and would love nothing more than to come and explain there rights and ownership. Funny they never show up..a guy once tied rope across all of his neighborhoods docks after an altercation we had.. this one was the only one that actually did call . The sheriff told him there wasn’t anything he could do, and the sign at private property sign at the entrance was false advertisement unless it was regarding the land it was sitting on.. the worst thing is when they tell you that there tired of your line tearing up there lower seals, but all there friend and family fish from the bank breaking off repeatedly in the rocks leaving long leads and those of us bass fishing are retrieving our snags and in the event of breaking off it’d generally right at the knot..
