I took a step back and put my boat in the shop and sent my prop off. Nothing wrong with the motor really, but wanted to go ahead and get carbs rebuilt with new bowls and tilt/trim rebuilt due to the intermittent hanging up issue.

The prop will be back tomorrow, and will have the boat back at the end of the week. On the prop, Mark repaired, balanced and blueprinted, and returned the cup to specs.

This weekend we will be dialing it in, hopefully for good. One of my original problems was not being able to hit 5500 without trimming to max trim. If he repaired the cup that was worn to spec, will that make it even harder to reach the 5500?

I know that raising the jackplate will allow the motor to spin up more, but I believe we already determined that I was teetering on being too high.

    Thoughts?

Most of the time, your best performance comes from 100% throttle with 100% trim. Your raker will act completely different when it's been worked. It should not fall down and slip like most do out of the box.

All that circle talk means, you want your 5,500-5,700 to come WFO All it's got.

Well, all the engine hoists were rented from Sunbelt. So, still havent hung my jackplate.

Did run the boat a little this evening with the worked prop. Running 59@5300 with a full load (30 gal fuel, full livewell, me 220 and brother 240, 10lb bag of tools, bag of ice with a few drinks, plus enough tackle to fish for 6 months straight.)

Water was rough, so I believe there was a mile or two more to be had. Hopefully, will pick up the last 200 rpm when I get the plate on and motor tweaked.

Im also gonna have to play with the PVS plugs now that the prop is biting more.

Installed jackplate Friday eve. Made several runs this am. Started off with what we believed was 3.5ish prop to pad (all we had was asphalt to set PTP). 1st run, water pressure dropped to 10 once it popped up on pad, so I shut it down. Dropped jackplate 4 clicks for safe measure. Ran 56 at 5300 rpm and 20+ wp. 2nd run, raised one click, ran 58 and 5400 rpm 20+wp. 3rd run raised one click, ran 60-61@5500. WP was dead on 20. I believe I can raise one more click, but boat traffic got too bad and we shut it down.

The jackplate definitely made the boat easier to handle. Maybe a little more squirrely at top speed. I really was expecting to see a solid 63 or 64 loaded, but I guess that's just not gonna happen. Any suggestions?

I know theres lots of variables but can you put an estimate on the loss of power from summer to winter?

So, its possible to have to re-prop once it cools since Im already running right at my max RPM. Correct?

    Very possible.

The good news? That motor is happy running at 5,900 rpms, so before I spend any more of your cash, see what happens.

    I'm also in Jax - the heat turns a snappy two stroke into a dog. I run a 23 Trophy+ summer heat, and run a 25 or 26 Trophy+ when the temps drop. Tr-20, 2.5 200 EFI.

I dont mind spending the money. I enjoy taking it out and running it and trying to get it right.

I did move it up 1 more click, and took it out today by myself. Saw some different things I didnt care for/not sure about. With my brother removed from the boat -230lbs and J/P raised one click:
    1. The boat ran 62 at 5500, but wanted to porpoise at the very top end
    2. The water pressure was actually higher @25 psi, which doesnt make sense.
    3. When running the twists and turns in the creek, the crazy intermittent slipping showed back up.

Im assuming most of this is because when my brother is in the boat with me, we sit deeper and hook up better. But why would my water pressure be higher? Makes no sense.

Don't worry about what happens with a light load, always setup for your regular load. You'll never make it right with a load based on anything done light. That is 100% experience.

As fars as the "looseness" thats what ya want. If its chine walk you have to learn to drive it there. Many videos on how to drive with the boat chine walking. Thats where your absolute best top speed will be. very little boat in the water. Me, I drive up to chine walk then bump the trim down till it just quits. then relax.

NEVER EVER EVER dump the throttle first, start down on the trim then ease off the gas. Dumping the thottle from full to idle while up on the pad can give you a very bad experience. Boat can spin, roll, or just dump you in the water.

Thanks for all of your help! I've learned a lot. I've always just used a boat as is when I bought it.

Im gonna run it like it is until it cools off.

    Hey Pat

Have the opportunity to grab up a 25 renegade for 100-150 bucks. Will probably need B&B. Think its worth it for my boat?

Depends on what you're looking for. 4 blade usually is a little quicker holeshot, give you a little better handling, the compromise is some mph and bow lift.

Well, I feel like Ive almost got her dialed in, but I haven't tried any other props. Someone said tempest, I bought a tempest. I still would like to try an original raker, and a renegade or Tr04. I def like the tempest, but really have no idea what any other prop will or wont do.

I ran some really dirty water Friday evening and it kept jumping on and off the pad. Im hoping it was just weeds n crap on the motor.

I lost out on the renegade on ebay. Was sure I could get it for 150. Someone wanted it worse than I.
