Is a Mercury 150 Pro XS adequate power for an 18TRX?

I think it will get you by, but I don't see the point in that?

You might as well get a 189TRX with a 175 Pro XS

It’s on a 2017 model I’m considering but, given the weight of the boat, I’m concerned it will be underpowered and perform poorly.

A 150 on this hull is adequate and thats about it. Its fairly heavy for it size. Handles and runs well but dont expect much more than 58-60 tops with a standard load. Holeshot may suffer a bit too. A 175-200 is much better. But take a ride in it could be just right for you. Never know.

Are you sure it is not a 189TRX??

They we only rated for 150 HP up until 2017 or so...

I don't think I've ever seen an 18TRX that didn't come with a 200. That is part of the appeal of the 18TRX and the $$$ increase.

Otherwise (minus other options) you are basically buying a 189TRX with a 150 HP.

The emblem on the gunwale is 18TRX, and matches the title according to the sellers.

Personally I would never buy a 18TRX with a 150. I have a friend with a 189 TRX, which is basically the same hull and the same weight- and in my opinion it is definitely under powered. With me in the Boat he can get 53 miles an hour, by himself 55 mph. It feels sluggish and he is not happy. They have increased the max horsepower on the TRX189 to 175 H.P. for a good reason. I don’t think you would be happy with the 150 on a 18TRX.

50 HP under the rating is quiet a bit. You could prop it to come out of the hole decently but you will be wide open at 52-55 mph. If the sellers asking price is really good you might could buy it and re-power it. I wouldn't go less than a 175 on that hull.

Has anyone tried an 8" or bigger jackplate on their trx? Im replacing the 4" that was on there when I bought it and the plan was to get a 6", but I was wondering how an 8 or 10 would affect the performance
