    20XD w/300R Setup Help

    What I have...

    20XD
    300R Stock
    12" Rapid Jack
    32 Bravo I
1/2" above pad at moment. Reading other post, sounds like it needs to go up.

With most loads, heavy or light it seems to blow out once the bow drops on take off and I'm patting the gas pedal trying to get it to hook up. With heavy loads, full tank, tackle and partner boat will never get on plan unless I get partner on front deck. Its almost like I a dragster doing a burn out and going nowhere. Really need some help on where to start cause I'm clueless with this combination.

A regular 300 XS would run bout 1.5 above so I would think the 300r would do the same....have you run the Max5 yet ?

Gentleman on facebook posted pic on Performance Fishing Machines of a SST with 300r 1:60 case to 97 mph...Wish my 21 xdc with same engine and case could have got close to those numbers..Mercury prop guy recommended a 29 Max5st and I could only turn it 5200 rpm and 82 mph..I traded the 1:60 to a 1:75 and tried the same prop again..6050 rpm and 89.2 mph....Dissappointing to say the least

I haven't ran anything but the Bravo 32 and ready to start trying different things. My old 250XS ran 1 1/4" above pad and figured I'll start there next weekend. I would love to run the Max5 but just can't seem to find the cash to spring for a $2000+ prop right now. I'll keep everyone posted and many thanks for the help.

Just my opinion , motor to heavy for that hull . I had a 20xrd /225 pm, motor weighed 370# was a perfect fit for that hull.

he says he has a 300r that's not 505 pretty sure north of 600 , if you never have driven a 20 with a 2.5 you would have no idea , me going from a 20 with a 2.5 to a 21 with a 300x felt like I was driving a tank you could feel the weight in the back.
There has to be a reason guys with the new mercs are complaining I think it's weight of the motor. Like I said before just my opinion .

Pretty sure the 250 SHO and 250 Pro XS are both listed at 505 lbs. by manufacturers.

I was basing my post from the Mercury website on 300r weights.

    • DRY WEIGHT (LBS./KG)

    • L - 20"
      Std: 512/232; HD: 546/247

    • XL - 25"
      556/252

    • XXL - 30"
      566/257

If it's not weight then what is the issue with guys not being able to get the boats running ? Not calling anyone out just wondering about it , I been on Bullet sites since day one with Geoff's forum I just don't ever remembering seeing guys having propping issues like now with the new motors . Maybe Paul will come out of the wood work and share his wisdom about what could be the problem .

I agree with you. Somethings wrong. So far, I haven’t really heard of anyone just going out and ripping away. There’s holeshot issues and not running as fast as should be. No one should have to go out and pay 2k on a prop to get a motor to run right. These have been made out to be the new big thing with all the power and torque. I’m not really impressed at this point. Being an 8 cylinder I’m sure these motors have more potential unlocked power. Even so, with rated torque and power, they should raise and push a Bullet without issue. How they going to act with a heavy boat?

If you watched the Boating Magazine test on the 300r they said they could not get past mid 90's on the test (empty boat) after they left Tom and Paul went through some props and broke 100 , the video is on YouTube . Not sure what they did to get it rolling.

Everything I seen on them the 34p Max5 is the ticket. I’d hate to buy one though.

How can you possibly have a fishing hole shot with a 34 pitch ?

The five will have a better lift, but I’m referring to the hard running side.

Finding a right prop and maybe some wedges for negative trim may help. I hope these guys with the 300r find a good solution.

I'm going to stick a set of wedges on the back of my SST. To see if it helps with the hole digging and break over prop slip. Croxton thinks we need longer barrels and full flairs on the props. At least that's what he was thinking on mine. 300 R 1:75-1 sport.

I have a 300R 1.60 SM on a 21SDC. I’ve tried a foil, 2” less setback, wedges & a long barrel original bravo1 and none of these things helped the tail digging on holeshot. I caint figure it out. I had a 300XS 1.62 SM with a foil prior & the boat would fly out with very little bow rise & no tail digging.
