New carpet, how to keep edges from fraying

Recarpeting the boat while California has our lakes shut down due to social distancing.
How do you prevent all the cut edges from shedding? There is no molding on the decks to prevent this from happening.

You can take it to a canvas shop and have it surged or edge binding sewn on. Only other option would be to get the adhesive backed edge molding

You can find someone with a binder attachment, and have them sew on a sunbrella binding, 1.5" works best. You're going to have to cut the carpet exact to the placement in the boat.

Bring it to me...I’ll bind it for free for you. It’s a long trip. Ha Ha Ha !! Most any canvas or upholstery shop can do it for you with sunbrella or we also use marine vinyl at times.

Floor was easy because it has molding. Decks just have recessed areas for carpet

I've also used a grill starter and lightly singed the edges. Don't laugh. It worked!

Soldering Iron but do it in a well ventilated area so you don't inhale the toxic fumes...

I singed the edges of all mine with a small butane torch after they were installed.
