The state of football in the state of Mississippi

Does anybody else think that if Ole Miss and State combined teams that we might.....MIGHT (key word there) win a conference game?

I'm pretty sure State will get a conference win on their own November 26.

You watch enough egg bowls you quickly realize no one can predict that game.

after the junk I've seen on the field this year... I hope Mullen is getting ready for next year because it seems like he's thrown in the towell.

I will predict that The Black Bears will get the chit kicked out of them again!

And to open the wound even further the dumb asses in Oxford decide it would be a good time to restart the program. There was nothing wrong with Coach O as well as Nutt. The program is on a fall and its going to rock bottom. That team will be back but it will be at least 3 years before a winning season happens in Oxford. All these high school players see this and want the best shot at the NFL and this is what will take The Black Bears so long to rebuild. No I am not beating up on them we had a good run last year and lost some key players. This year has not been fun either. I think we will end the season 6-6 which is a far cry from 9-3 last year. TSUN will end the season 2-10. That means there are only 2 teams in all of college football that have a worse record than TSUN.

IF I was King of the state

We lived in the Brookhaven area 27 years...
IF (lol) I was king...the state would have only one D-1 football program, 1 D-1 hoops and one D-1 baseball program...
by no stretch can the state support 3 D-1 football programs...
USM should go back to D-1A and MSU have the baseball D-1 and Ole Miss the football D-1 BUT as we all know...the state is happily divided into big losers and small losers as far as college...only Delta State seems good all-around.

Now that fantasy tripping is over in this post...we are back on earth again where Mississippi is a SEC laughing stock in at least 2/3 major sports year after year after year...they change coaches as if they can always get another SEC winner on the rebound...they they ditch him as if they can afford to...Va. Tech would never have their great winning legacy if they fired Beamer after 3 years of building...and they would...I give up...they must like things the way they are...which means even below Vandy in football...I am so glad wife and I have been LSU fans for many decades...

Coach O could recruit but couldn't coach. That meltdown in Starkville his last year was evident of that.

    <table width="90%" cellspacing=0 cellpadding=0 align=center><tr><td>Quote, originally posted by onebadcat &raquo;</td></tr><tr><td class="quote"> as well as Nutt. </td></tr></table>

He may have been "good enough"....but his firing was result of the culmination of a lot of things. Him being a Boone hiree doesn't help his case.

Please don't act like State is the "end-all, be-all" when it comes to Mississippi high schoolers wanting to go to the NFL. Hell Ole Miss had a better recruiting class this year than State did. Most of the "best" players go out of state anyway to teams like LSU, Bama, Ark and Auburn.

There are 108 teams in Division I ball who don't have to play in the SEC and 114 who don't have to play in the SEC West which as we all know is the toughest division in the toughest conference in college football. To borrow a line from Craig James on the BCS countdown, you have to look a teams body of work......and a tough schedule is part of that. Granted that doesn't explain the meltdowns against out of conference opponents.

In summary, both Ole Miss and State look like garbage this year.....and this might be the worst Ole Miss team I've ever seen. Just my .02

Re: The state of football in the state of Mississippi (onebadcat)

coach o was an awesome recruitor but a terrible coach. anyone who follows ole miss will agree. as for nutt i think he was ok. people dont realize how young ole miss is. they are the youngest team in the sec. nutt said in the press conference that he wished he could have been around to see this team grow. he spoke of how young and talented the team was and that the next coach whoever it was would be walking into a good situation. he said " mark my words that ole miss will contend for the west in the next 2 years". Then he said he wish he could be there for it but you are paid to win in the sec and that he hadnt done that and he understood the decision. they will be fine. the next coach will be found by archie nit boone so this one wil prolly work out better. these state fans are quick to hate when there season didnt work out like they wanted it to at all. you guys remember it wasnt that long ago yall went through 3/4 of a decade as one of the worst teams in football. its only been two for us 2008 and 2009 wasnt to long ago with back to back cotton bowl wins.
