Fury 3 vs Fury 4 Pitch Question

    Hey guys,

I currently have a 4-blade Fury (25 pitch) and I'm planning on getting a 3-blade too and was wondering what pitch to get.

I'm running the 4-blade on a 2012 Mercury ProXS 225hp on a Nitro Z8. I get about 64mph with 2 guys, half a tank of gas, and a ton of tackle running about 5600rpm. Been awhile since I've ran it wide open, so I'm basing that RPM off memory.

I was thinking just get the 3-blade in 25 pitch as well, but wondering what you guys think?

My experience is that the Fury 3 is stiffer than the 4. So you might want to drop down to a 24 for the same RPM's. However, I am pretty sure you want to actually be hitting 5850 for optimal performance of your motor. Have you tried a 24 fury 4 on your rig?

I have not tried a 24p. I'm taking the boat out on Friday and will check my RPMs at WOT in case my memory sucks. In general, how much RPM change is there between pitch degrees? Will 1 degree of pitch change add 250 RPM?

Thanks Meng! I took the boat out today and was getting 5900 RPM when trimmed way up. But for the most part was getting 5700-5800 RPMs when running WOT. So I'm thinking 25 pitch is the way to go.

In my experience the Fury 4 wants to be 1/4-1/2” higher than is 3 bladed brother. Get the 25, drop it a 1/4 and give it a try.

You need a 23 or 24 Fury to achieve 5900 rpm depending on elevation and loads, if you have poles you need a 23
Your boat will not pull a 25 Fury to the correct rpm properly set up, that is what I run on my 03 cougar with a 250 Pro xs and no poles, which much lighter and faster than your nitro
If you are getting 5800, suspect the motor is to high, 5600 sound about right or the prop is not right (to much slip)
You need ideally about 59 to 5950 rpm for that motor and slip should be under 12%
Everything correct I would expect 68-70 mph at about 10% slip at 5900 with a 24 Fury
I would start with a Fury prop pitch that I could see 6 to 6150 under perfect conditions, and ran at optimum height with a tournament load, then I would talk mark about having it reworked, reprofiling the progression and cup profile to get a end result of 5950 for that motor
If you do not want to spend the extra on the prop work to get it right, go with a tempest in 24 or 25
