What I do is heat up the pencil tip and fuse the plastic back together or liquify it enough to press it against a lead head. Melting the two halves of the plastic back together will work. But, it's about 1000 times as hard as just buying a bottle of Mend-It. The small bottle of Mend-It will last me two years.

Mendit is great for plastic to plastic but cant glue to hard surface
I started out awhile ago with a Weller battery operated soldering iron, and it worked at the time. But once I found Mend-It there is no turning back
