We are still doing emergent surgery, and cases that need done sooner rather than later. For example we are intending mediports, appendectomy, orif, and emergency c sections.

We are not doing stuff like carpal tunnel, knee or shoulder scopes cataracts, or other electives

The OR cost a lot to run and they make good money for the hospital so yes stopping them is costing the hospital a pile of money

elective surgeries are just that NOT necessary you ELECT to have them they are NOT life threatening which is not to say they are not important to the person, they are also what brings BIG $$$ in, hospitals will be fine they will be bailed out

The back log will take months if not years to resolve. At my wifes hospital they went from nearly empty and everyone standing around doing practically nothing to 20 suspected cases being admitted in a matter of hours.

Dang, a thread about hospitals in trouble. From reading BBC over the years I’d thought anything medical made trillions of dollars and would never be laid off and needing a government bail out.

I have surgery scheduled April 29th. Last Wednesday I had a biopsy scheduled. I was in the short stay area before and after the biopsy. My wife was not allowed in the hospital so I had to wait for her to come to pick me up. I walked around the short stay area and I counted 24 people laying in beds. I think they said they had 32 short stay beds. So some things are still occurring.

Most hospitals failed to have adequate supply of N-95’s on hand, I don’t think elective surgery is their biggest issue. Sounds like they we cheap on PPE for their workers, then when it hits the fan they go asking Jo public for PPE donations, incompetence on their part.

There will come a time we move on, and we all will be ready for that day.

I am against abortions, but I believe that number is incorrect. Looks like the average per year is around 750,000, not 11 million

No...hospitals keep just enough stock to last a certain amount of days and order as appropriate.

Yes the model sucks when it comes to some supplies but is necessary for many others

Just because you get bail out money doesn't mean you actually needed it.

Are you suggesting people are sinners by nature and greed is a sin that knows no boundaries?
